Most Wanted Mombasa White Widow Traced in Foreign Battle Zone
Samantha ‘white widow’ Lewthwaite is still fighting battles in war-torn zones more than ten years after she was declared the world’s most wanted woman.
According to the latest information, security agencies believe that Lewthwaite, also known locally as the “Mombasa white widow” in Kenya, is involved in a war in Yemen between government forces and Al Qaeda groups.
According to a report in the UK newspaper The Sun on Sunday, November 8, the wanted criminal is fighting rebels in the war-torn country and cannot leave under the current circumstances.
She is believed to have fled to Yemen from Africa in 2018 after dodging global security for years. Security agencies report that information about her whereabouts is difficult to obtain because Western forces are not operative in Yemen.
“Lewthwaite’s last-known location is Yemen. But trying to get intelligence there is as tough as in Syria when the IS regime was at its height.
“There’s virtually no Western presence in Yemen because it’s so dangerous. And in the absence of evidence to the contrary, it’s assumed she’s alive and being supported by extremists,” The Sun quoted security agencies.
Lewthwaite was married to Germaine Lindsay, a suicide bomber who killed herself and 26 others in the United Kingdom in July 2005.
She later fled to South Africa in 2009, then to Tanzania in 2011, where she hid for a while in Mombasa.
During her time in Kenya, Lewthwaite was accused of financing members of the Al Shabaab terror group, which operates in Somalia.
She is also suspected of being involved in the 2013 Westgate Mall bombing, which killed 68 people.
During a hearing in Kenya in 2014, a detective revealed that the ‘white widow’ avoided officers – even after oblivious cops visited a house she was living in Mombasa – because she can easily disguise herself.
“She is a person with multiple identifications. She keeps moving. We think she is using plastic surgery including her nose,” stated the detective.
When the investigation became more intense, Samantha crossed from Somalia to Yemen with the help of Al Shabaab and has largely remained hidden.
