“I am the new project” – 25-Year-Old Star Eager to Ignite Chelsea’s Path to Glory

Christopher Nkunku is eager to demonstrate his abilities and has no misgivings about signing with Chelsea.

Christopher Nkunku stated in an exclusive interview with the Times (subscription required) that he has no regrets about joining Chelsea and is eager to prove his worth in a blue jersey.

Chelsea announced the signing of the French international from RB Leipzig for approximately £52 million approximately five weeks ago.

This transfer was agreed upon in the midst of the previous season.

Nkunku was the first player to join the senior team this summer. A few days later, striker Nicolas Jackson was added.

The former PSG junior player is a versatile forward capable of playing virtually all forward positions.

Despite Chelsea’s dismal performance last season, Christopher Nkunku has no misgivings about joining the club.

Here is what he had to say about the transfer to Stamford Bridge, his desire to perform well, and why he has no regrets despite the team’s dismal performance last season (h/t The Times):

“The season of Chelsea last year wasn’t good, everybody knows this. This year is a new project, new year, new season. I am the new project and I am happy to be here. Even if Chelsea was 15th or 16th place, it doesn’t matter for me because I knew that the new season would not be the same as last season.

“I want to show what I can do. This is just the beginning. I need to adapt. To come here and score directly in the first game [against Wrexham] I was very happy. The first thing in my mind is to adapt with the team and my team-mates, with the club also, and to improve every day.”

Despite the fact that Nkunku (25) is a distinct player than Mason Mount, it appears that Chelsea has replaced Mount with Nkunku in the same summer.

The new acquisition is most at ease when operating as number 10. He is capable of playing on either flank or as a false nine.

The 25-year-old is a goal-scoring attacking midfielder/forward whose game focuses on finding space between the lines, making dashes behind the defense, and creating or scoring goals.

Nkunku is anxious to demonstrate his abilities in a Chelsea uniform.

Since leaving PSG in 2019, the Frenchman tallied 70 goals and assisted 56 in 170 appearances across all competitions for Leipzig over the course of four seasons.

Only 15 of the 170 occurrences were bogus nines. (Transfermarkt). Those are therefore remarkable results, something Chelsea has lacked.

Adding goals is one of the many factors Mauricio Pochettino must improve in this team.

They have not yet acquired an experienced number nine, but Nkunku is capable of shouldering a significant portion of the load while others contribute to relieve the strain.

The pairing of Nkunku and Jackson, who has also excelled in preseason play, is one of the many options available with Nkunku.
