Mikel Arteta Denies Arsenal Wonderkid’s Transfer Wish Despite Warning…

Swansea City is expected to acquire Arsenal’s promising youngster Charlie Patino after he impressed at Blackpool. Patino will be loaned out again by Arsenal this season.

Charlie Patino, a midfielder for Arsenal, will join Swansea City on loan, despite favoring a permanent transfer.

Despite Blackpool’s relegation to League One last season, Patino excelled while on loan at Bloomfield Road, prompting Arsenal to exercise an option to prolong his contract through 2025.

The 19-year-old has made two senior appearances for the Gunners, scoring on his debut against Sunderland in December 2021, a “beautiful moment” according to manager Mikel Arteta. However, he also cautioned against expecting too much from Patino too quickly, stating:

“I think that is very positive [that the fans were singing his name]. They heard about him and know what he can become and now we have to cook him slowly. Today was a good start, I think.

“[Too much expectation around him] is what we have to avoid. He still has a lot of competition in front of him. He is really young. And he needs to go step by step. Today he was lucky, he got the opportunity and he took it really well.”

Earlier this summer, The Athletic reported that Patino was ‘expected to depart the Emirates Stadium on a permanent basis’ amid interest from a number of clubs in the United Kingdom and abroad.

According to the report, Patino did not want to “make another temporary move away from Arsenal and is willing to pursue his career elsewhere.”

With Arsenal poised to mount another Premier League title challenge and return to the Champions League, Arteta has significantly bolstered his midfield options by acquiring Declan Rice and Kai Havertz from West Ham and Chelsea, respectively.

As a consequence, it was unlikely Patino would receive many first-team opportunities at Arsenal, and the club was reportedly’receptive to his desire’ to leave. However, the circumstance has changed.

Charlie Patino, a teenager from Arsenal, will soon join Swansea on loan.

BBC Sport Wales reports that the adolescent will join Swansea on loan for the remainder of the season, where he will reunite with former Blackpool teammate Jerry Yates.

He will become the club’s eighth significant summer signing under new manager Michael Duff.

Swansea have already acquired Yates, Mykola Kukharevych, Josh Key, Josh Ginnelly, Carl Rushworth, and Harrison Ashby, and Duff hinted at the signing of Patino after his team’s 3-0 League Cup victory over Northampton Town.

“We think there’s one coming in,” Duff revealed to BBC.

“There has been a yes in terms of an agreement. It will be a loan. We are hoping it will be done by the weekend but there’s a few technical issues.”
