‘Thanks for Everything’ – Striker Finally Says Goodbye to Manchester United: Medical Set for a New Chapter
Former Manchester United forward Wout Weghorst has sent a farewell message to the club’s supporters after a disappointing loan stint in the North West.
The Dutch forward joined on loan from Vincent Kompany’s Burnley; however, despite being on loan at Besiktas, his loan was terminated prior to his move to Old Trafford.
The forward had a relatively unsuccessful stint in Manchester, scoring only two goals, but despite his relative lack of goal-scoring ability, he was always popular with United fans.
Weghorst scored in the Carabao Cup against Nottingham Forest before scoring in the UEFA Europa League against Real Betis.
Weghorst’s farewell note
The forward posted a farewell video to the United supporters on his social media page, which featured clips from his time at Old Trafford, including his only goal at Old Trafford.
He had remained reticent until now, despite the fact that his loan at the club expired on June 30.
“United fans, thanks for everything I really enjoyed every single second at this club,” the Dutch forward said.
“From winning silverware to scoring my first goal at Old Trafford against Betis, It’s been a dream come true. It was an unbelievable privilege to wear the shirt and to the United fans, thank you.”
Although the forward had scored only two goals for the Red Devils, it was evident that he cared deeply about United and was eager to make a positive impression.
Weghorst was a temporary alternative.
The Dutchman was an emergency loan signing due to United’s lack of forward options, which was primarily due to Anthony Martial’s injury problems throughout the season. United required options up front, so they turned to Weghorst, who had been successful in Turkey.
The forward never lacked tenacity and was always willing to sacrifice himself for the team, but he was ultimately a disappointing presence up front during a time when United needed a dependable forward.
The forward will be remembered for his performance in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United, where he was unquestionably United’s man of the match in a 2-0 victory.
Weghorst will move to Hoffenheim
The striker’s next move has been decided upon.
He will not remain at Burnley for the remainder of their Premier League season, which is likely to the benefit of Manchester United, as he would have inevitably scored against us.
He is currently en route to the Bundesliga. According to BILD, Hoffenheim are close to reaching an agreement.
Fabrizio Romano reports that he will leave Burnley on loan for the German club and will undertake a medical this week in order to finalize the transfer.
