ECDE Teachers Salary scales updated in 2023

Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) teachers and carers can now examine all of their compensation information, according to a clarification from the compensation & Remuneration Commission, SRC.

The Salaries Review Commission contends that these teachers shouldn’t be paid at least Ksh7,000 each month.

Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) Professionals’ Compensation Information

The Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) Salary Structure has been misrepresented in the media, and the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) wants to make the public aware of this.

These studies show that ECDE teachers are paid less than the federally mandated minimum wage. The reports were false since they were based on basic income rather than gross wage.

According to the SRC, it recommended a gross remuneration of between Ksh 14,961 and Ksh 15,842 for the lowest cadre of ECDE instructors in Nairobi (Cluster 1) and between Ksh 13,211 and Ksh 14,092 for those in Cluster 4 (other areas) in December 2021.

The affordability and long-term viability of county governments’ pay responsibilities were considered in this advise.

On January 13, 2023, the SRC clarified the pay and perks of ECDE teachers in response to a request from county governments.

The SRC is now examining the salaries of all public employees, including ECDE teachers, as part of the third pay review cycle. In June 2023, the results are anticipated.

Salaries commissions and Compensation

The Kenyan Constitution of 2010’s Chapter 12’s Article 230 established the Salary and Remuneration Commission (SRC). Two primary responsibilities of the State SRC are as follows:

a) determining and assessing the pay and benefits for all State officers.

b) offering municipal, state, and federal governments advice regarding the pay and benefits of other public employees.

It is good news to these ECDE Teachers as the government proposes to employ them through the teachers service commission according to the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms (PWPER) proposals.

If this proposal is something to go by and if assented to by the president, them these teachers will say goodbye to the salary delays orchestrated by the county governments.

These teachers will also enjoy a higher and Uniform salaries like their counterparts in primary and secondary schools of only the government accepts to adopt the Proposal.
