Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana was defeated near the midway line.

Andre Onana was willing to accept the blame for Lens’ incredible goal from the half-way line during Manchester United’s preseason win at Old Trafford.

Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Lens was somewhat overshadowed by the unveiling of Rasmus Hojlund following his £72 million transfer from Atalanta.

United fell behind after Diogo Dalot gave the ball away and Lens’ Florian Sotoca scored with a superb lob over Onana from just inside the United half.

“Like I always say, I am responsible for everything, particularly when we concede goals,” said Onana, who last month concluded a £47 million transfer from Inter Milan. “I’m the big guy in the back, so I’ll take all the criticism and bear all the responsibility.”

Marcus Rashford, Anthony, and Casemiro aided Manchester United’s comeback from Sotoca’s wondergoal to secure a 3-1 victory.

Onana added to MUTV:

“I’m happy for the win. Of course we can always be better. Some things we have to try to fix.

“It was a great game for me and for the guys, some important goals and I’m happy for everything.”

Lens’ Florian Sotoca launched a long pass to Onana.

Onana is one of three newcomers to Manchester United, along with English midfielder Mason Mount and Danish forward Hojlund.

United performed admirably in Ten Hag’s first season in England, finishing third in the Premier League and capturing the League Cup after a six-year trophy drought.

In anticipation of the upcoming season, Onana stated, “I believe this year will be fantastic, and I am thrilled for the upcoming games.” I’m already looking forward to Wolves, but we’ll need to prepare well because it won’t be simple.

“Everyone is working hard, and I’m very confident and optimistic that if we do the right things, everything will be all right.”

When asked how he felt about playing at Old Trafford for the first time, the 27-year-old responded, “I am so excited for my debut.” However, the victory was the most crucial aspect.

“[The supporters’ cheering during the warm-up] was a wonderful greeting for me. I am pleased with the victory, as today was crucial, and we will now prepare for the upcoming games.”
