Distribution of Newly Hired Teachers 2023; TSC

On Tuesday, May 30th, 2023, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) explained how it completed the recruitment procedure for about 36,000 instructors who were deployed across the country’s secondary and primary schools.

During the January 2023 recruitment process, a total of 30,550 tutors were hired and assigned to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS), while the rest were sent to conventional secondary schools in Kenya.

The JSS educators were distributed based on an equitable distribution mechanism based on TSC information.

TSC stated that with 30,550 new Grade 7 courses in the country, it allocated one (1) teacher per class for all 30,550 Grade 7 classes across the country.

Concerns were raised after MPs demanded that the TSC table a report on the teacher distribution procedure after parents stormed a school in Uasin Gishu County on May 17th and closed classrooms due to a lack of jss instructors.

According to the parents, the government did not send enough teachers to their 45-student JSS school.

According to the tsc report, elementary schools received 5,000 roles, 1,000 on permanent and pensionable periods of service, and 4,000 teacher interns.
