Atwoli Asks Kenyans To Accept New President After Supreme Court Verdict

For the sake of peace, the secretary general of the Central Organization of Trade Unions, Francis Atwoli, has asked Kenyans to accept the new president following the Supreme Court verdict.

In a video obtained by the Star, Atwoli, a member of the Azimio coalition, stated that people should not dwell on one issue because the country must move forward and grow.

“The way we advised Raila is that we have to pass the legal way and wait for the verdict and even President-elect William Ruto said he will accept the courts decision,” he said.

He also urged those inciting others to violence on social media to stop because the country is not prepared for it.

“Let the court do its work, and before then let us keep peace. Those talking about violence should look back when we were looking for independence, how things were, we are not ready to go back there.”

Raila Odinga, the Azimio presidential candidate, has stated that he will petition the Supreme Court to challenge the election results announced on Monday, August 15.

Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Wafula Chebukati, declared William Ruto the president-elect on Monday.

Raila received 6,942,930 votes, while Ruto received 7,176,141 votes.

Raila claimed that Ruto’s declaration as president-elect was null and void.

“Let no one take the law into their own hands. We are pursuing constitutional and lawful channels to invalidate Chebukati’s illegal and unconstitutional pronouncement. We are certain that justice will prevail,” he said.
