Why Most Schools Will Close Early Before 27th
The 2023 school calendar, released by the Ministry of Education, indicates that primary and secondary schools are scheduled to close next week. However, it has come to light that a portion of secondary schools will conclude their academic activities on Thursday, October 19, 2023, with the majority following suit on Monday, October 23, 2023.
In the case of primary schools, the majority are expected to close on Wednesday, October 25, while a significant number will do so on Thursday, October 26.
This deviation from the official Ministry calendar is primarily due to a clash with an important national exercise. As a result, primary schools are set to close earlier than the official date, making way for rehearsals related to the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

The KCPE and KCSE exams for the year 2023 are scheduled to commence on October 30 and conclude on November 1, 2023. The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has assured that preparations have been completed to administer these national examinations to approximately 2.3 million learners.
Specifically, around 1,415,315 candidates will sit for the KCPE exam, and 903,260 will take the KCSE test, while preparations have been made for the Kenya Primary School Examinations (KPSEA) for 1,282,574 Grade Six learners.
In addition, the Ministry of Education has already released the 2024 school calendar, revealing that schools will enjoy a ten-week holiday before reopening on January 8, 2024.
