Over 20 individuals from various schools are currently in police custody due to allegations of malpractices in the ongoing 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations. Notably, five teachers in Kuria Migori County and the principal of Nyambaria Boys School have been implicated in examination cheating.

Last year, Nyambaria Boys High School garnered attention for its exceptional performance in the 2022 KCSE results. In those exams, the lowest-scoring student in the form four class achieved a B grade, while 383 students secured an A-minus.

Recent events, including the suspension of Nyambaria Boys School’s principal over alleged exam malpractice, have sparked discussions about the validity of the school’s previous results. Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang emphasized the importance of upholding integrity in national exam administration, highlighting significant investments to protect exam integrity during a speech on Monday.
