Schools to Close for 10 Weeks From this Date
According to the term dates published by the Ministry of Education on Friday, students in primary, secondary, and teacher training colleges will enjoy a 10-week break before classes resume early next year.
Schools are set to close on October 27, 2023, in preparation for national examinations, and the first term is expected to resume on January 8, 2024. This will provide students with a 72-day break, a significant improvement compared to the usual two-week holiday at the end of Terms I and II.
The 2024 academic calendar marks a return to the regular schedule, representing the first time since the pandemic in 2020. This academic year started on January 23, 2023, after the national exams concluded in late December.
To compensate for the time lost during the 2020 lockdown, the school years in 2021 and 2022 included four terms instead of the usual three.
The first term in 2024 will last for 13 weeks, from January 8 to April 5. The April vacation will extend until April 26, 2024.

The second term, lasting 14 weeks, will begin on April 29 and end on August 2, 2024, followed by a three-week break until August 26, 2024, when the final term of the year will begin.
The nine-week term will conclude on October 25, 2024, to make way for national examinations. Both Terms I and II will have a three-day midterm vacation.
Next year, there will be no Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations, and the last 8-4-4 students will graduate from primary school on November 2, 2023. The students will then enjoy a 10-week year-end break.
This year, the KCPE examinations and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment for Grade 6 students are scheduled to begin on October 30, 2023, and conclude on November 2, 2023. Candidates for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education will start their examinations on November 3, 2023, and conclude on November 24, 2023. The exams will be graded from November 27 to December 15, 2023.
