KNEC Announces Dates For Grades 3 to 7 CBC Assessment. Firstly, In a circular dated April 21, the Ministry Of Education (MoE) has notified teachers and parents on the availability of Examination materials for grades 3, 4 & 5 on its portal.
The circular further stated that starting from June, 5, 2023, the grade 3 examination materials will be available on the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) portal for download.
In the Circular, the headteachers have been asked to download and administer the exams then re-upload the results to KNEC latest on August, 11, 2023.
Those documents that needs to be uploaded include the grade 3 tools for Kenya Early Years Assessment (KEYA) and Kenya Foundation Level Education Assessment (KFLEA) that’s meant for learners with special needs.
The circular also indicates that the School Based Assessment (SBA) tools for grade 4, 5 and 6 will be accessible in the portal in various formats like Portable Document Format (PDF) and digital Format.
How to access the Tools
Headteachers are required to use their usernames and passwords to log into the CBA portal at http://www.cba.knec.ac.ke
“Any school that will have any password challenges should contact their respective Sub-County Directors of Education for resetting of the password,” part of the statement read.
KNEC further indicated that the grade 5 & 6 examination materials will be made available starting July, 10, 2023 and heads will be required to upload results by August, 11, 2023.
Nonetheless, the Sub-County Directors, primary school heads and special schools are expected by the examiner to administer the assessment tools, score the learners and upload the results to the CBA portal.
The circular further directed schools to use their usernames and passwords to log into the Portal to access the assessment tools in PDF format and download them.

“The tools will then be given to learners either in print format, projected on the screen or written on the Board. Depending on the format adopted, learners may write their responses on the question paper or on the provided writing materials by the school,” the notice added.
If you are using the digital format, learners will be required to log into the Portal using their assessment numbers.
“Learners will be expected to give their responses on writing materials provided by the school. The two formats of assessment tools will be displayed in the CBA portal using different buttons.
Importance of using Digital Learning Programme (DLP)
Schools are advised to allow learners access the tools through Digital Learning Programme (DLP) as it will save them on the printing cost.
For those who will not access the tools through DLP, will use the PDF format.
KNEC further indicated that material for Foundation Level will be accessed in PDF format by the teachers.
Using the guidelines provided in the tools, the teachers will assess the learners as they undertake the Performance-Based tasks and score them appropriately.
In the CBA portal, you will access the step by step guide on how to access the tools, scoring guides, instructions and how to upload the results to the portal.
The circular further notes that the assessment tools which are coloured should be printed in coloured or accessed through Digital devises and learners should use a different answer sheet to provide answers for them.
KNEC has asked the school heads to keep the records and evidence generated from the assessments since the materials will be required in future for use.
