KESSHA Call For Employment of More JSS Teachers

Kahi Indimuli, national chairman of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA), has requested the government to hire 60,000 more teachers to work with JSS pupils.

The national chair voiced worry that the government’s plan to properly produce children who can transition to senior secondary schools will be significantly disrupted by the teacher shortage.

The lack of teacher placements, according to Indimuli, has poisoned the new curriculum and calls for immediate action, including hiring more instructors.

He pointed out that in order to support the success of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC), the government can hire graduates from other fields, such as the arts.

He requested that the government construct infrastructure in every school and buy enough textbooks for students.

Dr. Emmanuel Manyasa, executive director of Usawa Agenda, accused the government of having mistaken priorities by allocating Ksh40 billion to the Hustler Fund account at the expense of the education sector.

According to him, the government must seriously offer a detailed plan for JSS in order for the curriculum to succeed.

Dr. Manyasa remarked that the public has not been adequately informed about the new curriculum by the government.

He asked unions to take the lead in promoting policies intended to help the struggling education sector.

Kennedy Echesa, an expert in education, voiced alarm over the fact that the government hired instructors yet failed to pay them.

He encouraged the government to help JSS teachers rather than punish them for their low pay and high taxes so they can advance the new curriculum.
