The 2023 KCPE examinations mark the culmination of the 8-4-4 education system in primary schools. More than 3.5 million candidates are expected to sit for the national examinations, with KCPE candidates accounting for the highest number ever recorded in the country. Additionally, just under one million students will be taking the KCSE exams this year, while 1.4 million are registered to sit for the KCPE exams. Furthermore, 1.2 million candidates are registered for the inaugural KPSEA.
During a briefing held for the monitoring officers at the Knec head office, Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang encouraged the officers to uphold professionalism and ensure the effective and efficient conduct of the assessments and examinations. He emphasized the need to motivate the candidates and convey that successful completion of these exams is attainable.
Moreover, the Principal Secretary praised Knec for its commendable work, particularly during the previous year when the Council transitioned from administering the traditional two examinations to an unprecedented five, as the country sought to stabilize the school calendar following the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The briefing was attended by Principal Secretaries from the Ministry of Education, members of the Council, and the Executive Management of Knec.
