TSC Releases another Batch of 1,000 Promotion Letters

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has recently distributed over 1000 promotional letters to school administrators across different counties. While delays occurred after the interviews, some counties are now issuing posting letters to teachers.

Initially, TSC advertised 14,738 teaching positions in December 2022 but later canceled the advertisement due to insufficient demand. Additional application requests were made in January, March, and May.

However, letters for senior positions have not yet been issued, leaving some teachers in acting roles while awaiting confirmation. Delays have been attributed to financial constraints, as funding was provided in installments by the Treasury.

The TSC plans to continue promoting and posting teachers incrementally as long as it receives financial support. CEO Nancy Macharia expressed concern about teachers’ reluctance to seek promotions in nearby counties due to the new “promotion based localization” system, which links teacher advancement to available openings in a specific county.

Out of the 14,738 job openings initially advertised, only 11,231 teachers were hired, with 3,507 positions left unfilled due to a lack of applications, and 1,021 reserved for affirmative action teachers.

These job openings included various positions in regular and special schools, such as chief principals, principals, deputy principals, senior masters, headteachers, deputy headteachers, and senior teachers.
