A teacher from Karoti Girls High School Mwea, Kirinyaga County, has today been arrested after hacking his fellow with a panga.
The battle caused drama and uncertainty in the school as students cheered for their favourite.
Reports from the institution state that the two teachers were fighting over a female university student who is on teaching practice at the school.
The victim, Alfonse Orina is said to be in serious condition at a private hospital in Mwea. The episode came at a time when both the Ministries of Interior and Education are grappling with a spike in criminal activities in schools.
According to Mwea East police commander Daniel Katavi, the suspect is being held at Wang’uru Police Station.
“We have also recovered the weapon he is said to have used to attack his colleague in the school compound,” noted Katavi.
The officers revealed that they had managed to restore normalcy in the school.
“He was still in the school compound after the incident when his colleagues were struggling to help the victim with others calling police officers. He will be charged with attempted murder,” Katavi said.
