Several schools defy KNEC order, push back rehearsal dates
Several secondary schools in the Kangemi, Lavington, and Westlands areas found it necessary to reschedule their rehearsal dates in preparation for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams, which were originally set for Thursday as per the Kenya National Examinations Council’s schedule. The students are set to commence their exams on October 23.
An anonymous school principal cited the inability to proceed with rehearsals due to other students occupying examination rooms at the time. According to the Ministry of Education’s school calendar, schools were expected to close next week. The third term holiday is notably one of the lengthiest, spanning 10 weeks until January 8.
At one school, lower-grade students already concluded their term on Wednesday, and the campus was bustling with restricted entry. Some students from neighboring schools who were to take their exams at the center were observed entering the institution.

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams will commence next week on Monday with French, German, Arabic oral questions, and the Kenya Sign Language and Music practicals. The KCSE exams will conclude on November 24, 2023, with Physics practicals.
On the other hand, the Kenya Certificate of Primary Exams and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment will have their rehearsals on October 27, 2023. The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) stated that preparations are in place to administer national examinations to 2.3 million learners, including 1,415,315 candidates for the KCPE exam and 903,260 for the KCSE test.
