Unquestionably one of the best basic education institutions in the nation, Makini School draws students from wealthy families.

A recent letter to parents revealed exciting plans for a later-in-the-year international school trip, to which each kid is required to pay more than KSh 560,000.

The Makini School kids will go to England and France for the nine-day, eight-night vacation, visiting incredible locations including the Emirates Stadium of Arsenal, a tour of London, and Disneyland Paris Theme Park.

The fees that will pay for things like lodging with full board, a return ticket, and passport and visa applications.

Mary Okelo and her late husband Pius Okelo started Makini School in 1978 with just eight kids in a colonial bungalow under the name Riara Gardens Academy. It grew over time, and in 1981 it changed its name to Makini Schools.

By selling two foreign investors a 71% share in the schools in 2018, Okelo profited over KSh1 billion. At the time, there were more than 3,200 students enrolled.

The school exhorted its members to honour these young people’s goals of leaving their mark on the world.
