KNEC CEO on why Exams Are Picked Twice Daily

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) CEO, Dr. David Njengere, has announced the introduction of a new rule aimed at preventing early exposure of the second paper during the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, which commenced today.

According to Dr. Njengere, there will be a double collection of examination papers from the container to the examination centers. The new rule specifies that the first session of KCSE will be conducted starting at 8:00 am, after which the center managers will return those papers to the container. Subsequently, they will collect the second session paper at 12:30 pm and administer it at 2:00 pm.

In an effort to maintain examination integrity, Dr. Njengere stressed that only the center manager is allowed to have a mobile phone in the examination center. All other phones must be stored in the center manager’s office. Adhering to this rule is expected to address the challenge of the early release of the second session paper effectively.

Additionally, Dr. Njengere discouraged officials from risking their lives to deliver exam papers in the heavy downpour. He advised them to use a toll-free number in case of emergencies, ensuring their safety during the examination period.
