How to Appeal HELB Scholarship If Not Awarded
The Universities Fund has issued guidance for students whose applications for government scholarships were not approved. They have the opportunity to seek funding through an appeal process, as stated in a release by the Universities Fund on Thursday, September 14.
The agency has welcomed students to submit appeals, granting them another chance to secure essential financial support for their higher education. The Universities Fund cites several reasons for scholarship rejections, including potential oversights or administrative errors by government officials.
Furthermore, students who received less scholarship funding than expected can request a review of their award amount, whether seeking an increase or decrease.
According to the Universities Fund, “Individuals may appeal or request a review of their Government Student Scholarships award if they were not satisfied with the amount given, including unsuccessful scholarship applications,” as stated in their release.

To initiate the appeal process for additional government scholarship funding through the University Fund Platform, follow these steps:
1. Access the portal and log in to your account.
2. Review your application within your account.
3. Click on the “Appeals” tab.
4. Submit your appeal, providing a detailed explanation in the “Reason for Appeal” field, including specific examples of how the extra funding will support your academic endeavors. Attach supporting documents, such as financial statements, academic transcripts, or letters of recommendation.
5. Click the “Submit” button.
The University Fund Platform will evaluate your appeal and notify you of their decision within a few weeks. Successful appeal letters should be clear, concise, and emphasize academic achievements and potential.
Applicants should articulate why they require additional funding and how it will contribute to their academic success, substantiating their claims with evidence.
It’s important to note that only Kenyan-born students are eligible for government scholarships under the new model, as clarified by the Universities Fund. International students should explore funding options through their respective universities, governments, or financial aid offices based on their eligibility.
