Erik ten Hag has already made his feelings known on Donny van de Beek after exit admission

Donny van de Beek refused to discuss his long-term future with Manchester United after scoring the game-winning goal in Wednesday’s 1-0 victory over Lyon.

Erik ten Hag has already indicated he will not stand in the way of Donny van de Beek if the midfielder decides to leave Manchester United during the transfer window.

Van de Beek, 26, has struggled to live up to expectations since transferring to Old Trafford in 2020. He was forced to miss the remainder of the 2022/23 season after sustaining a nasty knee injury in January and undergoing surgery.

Van de Beek is anticipated to garner interest this summer despite his disappointing time at United. He was a key member of the Ajax squad that flourished under Ten Hag prior to the player’s disastrous move to the Premier League.

And the midfield maestro refused to rule out a transfer after scoring a spectacular goal in United’s 1-0 victory over Lyon on Wednesday. Van de Beek stated, “Right now, it’s difficult to predict my destiny. I’ve returned from injury and am now fit, so when I play my first minutes after training for a few weeks, I press as hard as I can.

“Every day [something] can happen, so it’s hard to say now where my future will be. In football you never know, especially with me, so let’s see what happens.”

Manchester United is rumored to be willing to sell peripheral players during the transfer window in order to generate additional funds. The club has already reached agreements with Mason Mount and Andre Onana, but Ten Hag hopes to sign additional players.

Donny van de Beek is anticipated to garner transfer window interest and could leave Manchester United.

Given Ten Hag’s constrained transfer budget, it may be necessary to make difficult choices regarding fund-raising. And despite the fact that Van de Beek played a key role for Ten Hag at Ajax before the two parted ways, United’s manager made it plain last season that the midfielder would be transferred if he failed to make an impact.

In November, in response to rumors that Van de Beek was leaving the club on loan, Ten Hag stated:

“I’ve seen him better in the past. But I think positioning-wise, he’s acting quite well. But he has to make that step up. I don’t think a loan [makes] sense. It’s either he fights [for] himself and proves himself, in this atmosphere in this environment, or he goes.

“But for me, there is still a way for him, there is still a perspective for him. It’s not going to be easy because the competition there is really strong.”
