Arsenal Initiates Talks for Signing 31-Year-Old Champion of the Champions League
Galatasaray recently contacted Arsenal about the possibility of acquiring Jorginho, a 31-year-old former champion of the Champions League.
Galatasaray is interested in acquiring Jorginho, according to a report from Turkish news outlet TRT Spor.
And the Cimbom has recently inquired about the 31-year-old UEFA Champions League champion. The former Chelsea midfielder is now prepared to depart Arsenal during the current transfer window.
Jorginho has had a successful career despite not being highly regarded for the majority of his playing days.
The Italian international of Brazilian descent ascended to prominence after graduating from the club’s academy.
During his four-year tenure at Napoli, where Maurizio Sarri brought out his best, however, his stock skyrocketed.
The 31-year-old followed Sarri to Chelsea in July 2018, but failed to make an immediate impact.
He was heavily criticized during his first season, but he rose to the occasion in his second, ironically after Sarri left Chelsea. And Jorginho’s performances were critical to Chelsea’s 2021 UEFA Champions League victory.
In his second year with Chelsea, the veteran midfielder was also named vice-captain.
However, Jorginho’s tenure at Stamford Bridge terminated in January of this year due to the West London club’s excessive spending.
And he relocated across London during the winter transfer window to join Arsenal.
Given that he did not suit Arsenal’s usual market strategy, the transfer raised many eyebrows.
But the 31-year-old champion of the Champions League, who has made 16 appearances for Arsenal thus far, made an impression in Thomas Partey’s absence.
Jorginho’s brief tenure at Arsenal could come to an end this summer, as Galatasaray is interested in signing him.
This summer, the Turkish powers have been active on the market, signing eight players.
Recent rumors have linked Galatasaray with numerous midfielders, such as Fred and Tanguy Ndombele.
The moniker Jorginho is now on Galatasaray’s radar. They have already inquired about the Italian international’s availability with Arsenal.
According to the report, Jorginho is prepared to depart Arsenal during the current transfer window.
And his position is unsurprising given that the Gunners have signed Declan Rice. Similarly, Arsenal may not oppose the player’s transfer if they receive the asking price.
It will be fascinating to see if the 31-year-old Champions League champion transfers to Galatasaray.
