A 17-year-old KCSE candidate died in Kitui on Tuesday after a domestic brawl with her 27-year-old boyfriend. Police in Kitui’s Kisasi area stated that the boyfriend stubbed the girl several times resulting in her death.
The 27-year-old man later tried to commit suicide resulting in neck and stomach injuries. He was taken to Kitui Level IV Hospital for treatment awaiting investigations and arraignment in court.
A bloodstained object believed to be the killing weapon was recovered from the scene, the police said. Domestic cases resulting in killings and suicides have been increasing in Kenya in which experts have associated with worsening mental health in the country.
Recently, a police constable attached to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi’s security team killed his wife, a traffic police officer then later committing suicide.
There has also been an increasing number of school-going girls, yet to attain the legal consent age of 18, engaged with older men.
