Pope Francis Sends Cardinal Krajewski to Ukraine for Christmas Mission.

Pope Francis continues to show solidarity with the suffering people of Ukraine by sending Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, head of the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Service of Charity, to the war-stricken country in the days leading up to Christmas. A press release from the Vatican highlighted that the Pope prays daily for peace in Ukraine and wishes to offer tangible support to the Ukrainian people during this time of celebrating the Birth of Jesus.

Cardinal Krajewski will deliver a mobile hospital—a large camper van equipped for surgical procedures—and six ultrasound scanners to be donated to hospitals damaged in the ongoing war. The Dicastery emphasized that the Cardinal’s mission includes visiting multiple communities, offering prayers for peace, and instilling hope in the hearts of the people.

Previous Contributions to Ukraine

Cardinal Krajewski, as the Papal Almoner, has led numerous charitable efforts for Ukraine on behalf of Pope Francis. These initiatives include organizing aid convoys and personally visiting the country several times since Russia’s invasion in 2022.

In August, the Dicastery dispatched a convoy of trucks loaded with essential supplies such as food, baby formula, hygiene products, clothing, medicine, and other necessities to the eastern region of Kharkiv, one of the areas most devastated by the war.

Earlier in June, Cardinal Krajewski visited Ternopil, where he prayed at a cemetery. During his seventh visit to Ukraine, he delivered medical supplies gifted by Pope Francis. These included an ambulance equipped as a mobile intensive care unit and critical medicines from the Vatican Pharmacy and Rome’s Gemelli hospital.

By continuing these missions, Pope Francis and Cardinal Krajewski demonstrate unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine and praying for peace amid the ongoing conflict.
