Word “Secondary” to be Dropped and Replaced With These Word

On Friday, September 30, 2022, through a notice in the Kenyan gazette, the nation’s head of state, His Excellency President Dr. William Ruto, created a task committee to assess the country’s competency-based curriculum (CBC).

This came about as a result of the parents expressing grave concerns about the curriculum as their children transitioned to junior secondary school.

The taskforce has recommended that the Ministry of Education establish a comprehensive school system, which would include pre-primary, primary, and junior schools all governed as a single institution, from PP1 to Grade 9.

Additionally, it has been suggested that the terms junior secondary school and senior secondary school would no longer contain the word secondary.

Additionally wants the present Junior and Senior Secondary Schools to stop using the word “Secondary.” Read the report.

The categorization of schools will also be abandoned in favour of categorization of schools based on the paths in the competence-based curriculum.
