A woman from Busia county was arrested yesterday for allegedly refusing to take her children to school due to her religious beliefs. Susan Awino, a mother of three will be charged with infringing on her children’s rights to education.
The minors have been put under the care of the children’s department. Awina’s daughter is said to be in class 5 while her son is in form 1.
The woman was arrested at Sikulu village in the outskirts of Busia town after she pulled her two children out of school claiming that education is satanic. After police interrogated Awino revealed that her faith doesn’t allow her to take her children to school.
She had made her children believe that education is not worthwhile and they aren’t supposed to go to school. The woman now says she’s ready to go through anything but stands firm that she will not educate her children. She will be charged with violating the children’s rights to education. For the time being her children will be placed under the care of the children’s department.
