What you need to apply for studies at the Open University of Kenya
The Open University of Kenya (OUK), the country’s first fully virtual university, is now open for applications. Applicants interested in the five pioneer degree programs, as announced by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (Kuccps), will need to meet specific requirements.
Agnes Mercy Wahome, the CEO of Kuccps, mentioned that the application process will be free of charge and without a set deadline. The university will consider work experience, short courses, or recognition of prior learning when admitting learners to pursue degree programs, as outlined in the admission requirements.
The undergraduate programs offered by the university include Bachelor of Data Science, Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics, Bachelor of Technology Education, Bachelor of Business and Entrepreneurship, and Bachelor of Economics and Statistics.
For Bachelor’s degree programs, the minimum admission requirements include a mean grade of C+ and above at KCSE (or its equivalent), diplomas or professional qualifications from recognized institutions, or evidence of KCSE certification with a certificate of foundation or bridging courses from recognized institutions, among other qualifications.
For postgraduate programs, such as the Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership and Accountability and the Postgraduate Diploma in Learning Design and Technology, applicants will need a bachelor’s degree from an institution recognized by the Senate.
The university’s mode of instruction is open and distance learning, and the curriculum content for the programs has been developed by a team of consultants and approved by the Commission for Higher Education.
