What Happens During KPSEA and KCPE Rehearsal
The KCPE and KPSEA exams are approaching, scheduled to take place from October 30th to November 1st, 2023. Before the actual exams, candidates will undergo rehearsals on Friday, October 27, 2023, where various activities will be conducted by teachers contracted by Knec to serve as center managers, invigilators, and supervisors. These activities include briefing candidates on essential exam rules, providing instructions, guidelines, and outlining penalties.
During the rehearsal day, candidates will also be guided in arranging their desks or tables according to their index numbers for KCPE and assessment numbers for KPSEA candidates. Here are the duties and responsibilities that the exam supervisors, invigilators, and center managers will fulfill on this day:
1. Ensuring the provision of a secure room with a lockable cabinet or cupboard designated by the Center Manager for the storage of examination materials, excluding question papers and answer scripts during the exam period.
2. Conducting inspections of examination rooms to confirm compliance with the Council’s specifications, ensuring they are devoid of any unauthorized materials, and verifying that desks or tables are arranged according to the Council’s requirements.
3. Providing candidates with guidance on their conduct throughout the examination.
4. Assigning responsibilities and briefings to invigilators for their expected roles during the examination period.

Furthermore, during the actual examination period, Knec has implemented measures to limit the number of individuals allowed inside exam centers, primarily to prevent exam malpractices. The only authorized personnel within KPSEA, KCPE, and KCSE exam centers are as follows:
1. Center Manager
2. Deputy Principal/Headteacher (if an examination center has multiple deputies, the center manager will designate one deputy to assist)
3. Supervisor(s)
4. Invigilator(s)
5. Gatekeeper
6. Laboratory technician and science teacher, but only during practical exams
7. Authorized support staff responsible for preparing meals for candidates, with restricted movements limited to the kitchen area.
