UoN Will No Longer Offer These Degree Courses
Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama thinks that the group needs to keep accomplishing its objective by organising strategic interventions that are tailored to the need of certain people.
The senate allegedly reviewed this matter lately and approved a series of targeted actions aimed at enhancing the university’s relevance, vibrancy, and sustainability.
Speaking at the 67th Graduation, where 85 PhDs were conferred, Kiama claimed that this would make it easier to design uniform undergraduate curricula that would satisfy local, state, and global demands.
In order to shorten the curriculum, more than 250 units were dropped in 2021.
In addition to removing further courses from the 324 already available, Kiama stated that the institution will only staff its most important divisions and place a greater emphasis on engineering, medical, and IT.
We simplified our schedules, committed to concentrating on our duties on the flood ship, and cut back on the amount of appointments we had. In the last three years, we have amassed 8.2 billion through this process, and we’re still counting,” Kiama remarked.
According to the professor, reducing waste and leaks in the organization’s financial systems allowed for the reengineering of financial processes.
He went on to say that despite all efforts to make education more relevant, the university’s running costs had gone up.
The underfunded Differentiated Unit Cost and the unfunded collective bargaining agreements between the business and the unions continue to undermine this financial benefit. The most recent CBA will result in a 1.6 billion rise in our payroll, he asserted.

According to a memo from the university’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor DVC Academic Affairs Prof. Julius Okeng’o dated September 19, 2022, the decision to ensure its sustainability was reached.
According to the declaration, “By a copy of this memo, the Director of Information and Communication Technology is required to completely withdraw them from the system.”
Kiama begged on the government to accept the university’s proposal and provide it the money it requires to carry out its duties to the country.
He claims that the university of Nairobi foundation was created on June 30, 2022, with the express purpose of gathering donations for the college.
The PS for University Education and Research, Amb. Simon Nabukwesi, believes that universities ought to offer courses that are relevant to the job market.
“We want universities to advance and even profoundly compete with the best of the universities globally,” claims Nabukwesi. We advocate environmental sustainability.
In order to assure their financial security, he advised colleges to identify internal solutions.
Worldwide partnerships between institutions and international partners enable these institutions to get significant research grants that support both their teaching and research missions.
Nabukwesi commended UoN for making the initiative to create locally relevant answers to the issues.
“I’m happy UoN is setting an example by using internal resources to sustain financial stability. If we want to produce graduates with skills, Nabukwesi contends that the current paradigm shift in higher education is not an option.
Prof. Kiama claims that the company started looking into the matter because it was genuinely concerned for its reputation.
Sadly, even though we found and extinguished a blazing house, there are still dangerous ambers. While seated, we cannot afford to unwind. Prof. Kiama warned us to exercise caution because the fire could restart and include important components.
Even though there wasn’t enough money to pay the doctor’s allowances in 2020–2021, according to Kiama, they were increased. Capitation for universities was reduced.
According to Nabukwesi, who acknowledged the issue, the government has lessened the financial burden on colleges.
The administration is cognizant of the ongoing resource shortages in the higher education sector. He continued, “We travelled to Mombasa to discuss this issue with the vice chancellors from public universities.
He told them that in order to establish long-term solutions for universities, the ministry is happy to engage with the new administration and any other interested parties.
