Three People Have Been Arrested Over KCPE Papers
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have made arrests in connection with alleged cheating in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) national examinations, which began on Monday.
According to a police report, the suspects include Mercy Wairimu, who was identified as a KCPE impostor, and Doreen Gakii, the student involved in the alleged exam malpractice. They were apprehended at Nduruno Primary School in Starehe.
Mercy Wairimu assumed the identity of the impostor candidate and was registered under Index No. 021. District Criminal Investigation Officers (DCIO) escorted the suspects to the Ruaraka police station after their arrests.

These arrests come after a statement by Education PS Belio Kipsang on the Ministry of Education’s efforts to address exam cheating. Kipsang emphasized the importance of securing vulnerabilities that contribute to cheating and implementing comprehensive measures to prevent early exposure of examination materials.

In a separate incident, a Kiambu teacher who was arrested for allegedly distributing national examination papers appeared in court and pleaded not guilty. The teacher, Nicholas Ngumbau, faced accusations of creating multiple accounts on messaging platforms to sell KCPE examination papers.
The court directed Ngumbau to post bail and set a mention date for November 13 in the case.
