TSC Will Not Employ these Category of Teachers
In order for teachers in elementary and secondary schools to be able to meet the requirements of the new curriculum, they are now expected to participate in a retraining programme that lasts for an entire school year.
This recommendation is included in the draught report that was prepared by the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms (PWPER), which emphasises the significance of having educators adopt the CBC.
The New Curriculum as well as the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Teacher Retraining Programme
After educators have completed their retraining, the CBC, which has been in place for the past seven years, will act as their primary resource moving forward. The training that was formerly given by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is now recommended to be taken over by the Ministry of Education (MOE), which is the recommendation of the task group. The transition from the TSC to the ministry is scheduled to take place within one year of the revised plans being approved for implementation.
Retraining Guidelines
In order to accommodate the curricular adjustments, the Ministry of Education will release guidelines for the mandatory retraining that will be needed of all teachers who received their degrees prior to the year 2023. If you do not comply, you risk being kicked out of school, which will negatively impact your chances of finding work in the future.
The preliminary report makes no mention of who would be responsible for paying for the costs of retraining instructors, despite the fact that this information is essential. For a long time, unions that represent teachers have advocated for additional funding from the government to aid teachers in this endeavour.

Those individuals who apply to become instructors but are not willing to finish the internship will not be considered for the position. Teachers are obligated to make use of this chance for further training in order to strengthen their capabilities and get themselves better prepared for successfully implementing the CBC.
Enhancing the Capabilities of Teachers and Making Them More Prepared to Face Challenges
The task force came to the conclusion that the most significant barriers to implementing CBC were inadequate levels of teacher competency and preparation. Previous CBC trainings offered by TSC were criticised by stakeholders, who stated that the trainings were either too superficial, too brief, or given by trainers who lacked the necessary expertise.
Inconsistent methods of interpreting curriculum designs and a lack of adequate responses to concerns were also cited as sources of concern by those who voiced their concerns.
As part of the strategy to improve the quality of education provided in Kenyan schools, the establishment of the Kenya Teachers Training College has been proposed. It is planned that more Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) will become home to satellite campuses of this parent school.
