TSC Urged To Employ 700 Teachers In Ganze As COTU Boss Cast Doubt On CBC Implementation Success Over Poor Pupil-Teacher Ratio.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been urged to employ at least 700 teachers in the Ganze constituency, Kilifi County.
Hon. Mwambire Teddy Ngumbao says only 15 teachers have been employed by the commission in the area ravaged by hunger and drought. Pupils in the area are increasingly avoiding going to school. They are hungry and thirsty.

The MP said that the government should revive the school feeding programme in all the 11 counties that have been hit hard by the draught.
Mwambire challenged Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha to tour the region to assess the situation.
Elsewhere, the Central Organization of Trade Unions, COTU(K), Secretary-General Dr Francis Atwoli has said it is nearly impossible for the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) to work in Kenya unless heavy investment is done in the education sector.
The Cotu boss says the pupil to teacher ratio is not ideally appropriate for the implementation of CBC.
"For CBC to work, the government needs to invest heavily in the learning environment. It's near-impossible to implement CBC with an estimated 56:1 pupil-teacher ratio. Ideally, CBC requires a maximum pupil-teacher ratio of about 20:1." Says Atwoli.
"The government MUST bring on board all key players and have an honest, inclusive and candid conversation about the kind of education system that we need…whether or not we should go back to 8-4-4…and what should to be done to avert a catastrophe in the sector."
