TSC Updated Hardship Allowances According to Job Groups

Acknowledging the formidable challenges faced by teachers, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has taken steps to enhance the Hardship Allowance, a financial support mechanism aimed at bolstering educators in specific grades and scales who confront particularly demanding circumstances.
The TSC’s Hardship Allowance serves as a recognition of the unwavering dedication and commitment exhibited by teachers who willingly serve in these testing environments.

For the year 2023, the TSC has established varying levels of Hardship Allowance based on different grades:
– Grade D5 teachers are entitled to the highest Hardship Allowance, amounting to Ksh. 38,100.
– Teachers in Grades D3 and D4 qualify for a substantial Hardship Allowance of Ksh. 31,500.
– Grade D1 and D2 teachers receive a noteworthy Hardship Allowance of Sh. 27,300.
– Those in Grade C5 are eligible for an allowance of Sh. 17,100.
– In Grade C4, teachers will receive a Hardship Allowance of Ksh. 14,650.
– Grade C3 teachers are entitled to a Hardship Allowance of Sh. 12,300.
– Teachers in Grade C2 will receive an allowance of Sh. 10,900.
– Lastly, Grade C1 teachers will obtain a Hardship Allowance of Ksh. 8,200, and Grade B5 teachers will receive an allowance of 6,600.
