TSC To Start 1 Week Teacher Training, Schools To Pick OCS
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is gearing up to commence a one-week training program for teachers responsible for administering career guidance in their respective schools.
Several TSC County Directors have already responded positively to a TSC memo, which mandates them to assist school administrators in establishing an Office of Career Services (OCS) within their schools.
As part of this initiative, schools are obligated to designate a teacher who will oversee the Office of Career Services.
These chosen teachers, referred to as OCS coordinators, will then participate in training sessions organized by TSC within their respective counties.
Below, you will find a copy of the memo addressed to all County Directors by TSC, bearing the reference number TSC/DQAS/MEMOS/CD/40/VOLII/89, dated 16th August 2023, concerning the Office of Career Services.
OFFICE OF CAREER SERVICES
The State Department for Labour and Skills Development holds the responsibility of supervising skills development across various sectors, establishing and managing the institutional framework that connects industry skill development and training, as outlined in Executive Order No. 1 of 2021.
In alignment with its mandate, the Department is committed to fostering career guidance with the aim of reducing skill mismatches, enhancing the transition from school to the workforce, improving employability, facilitating labor mobility, and reintegrating marginalized and vulnerable groups into the education and labor market services.

To this end, the Department has devised a National Policy Framework and established Offices of Career Services (OCS).
As a result, Offices of Career Services (OCS) have been instituted in numerous universities, national polytechnics, technical vocational centers, as well as primary and secondary educational institutions.
By virtue of this memorandum, you are instructed to ensure the following:
(a) All institutions within your jurisdiction establish an Office of Career Service and appoint a teacher to coordinate OCS activities.
(b) Community Service Learning (CSL) is taught in accordance with the approved curriculum.
This directive should be conveyed to all institution administrators, and feedback should be provided to the County Directors’ office by the 10th of September 2023.
