TSC to Recruit 20,000 Teachers Next Month
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) now receives more funding from the Kenya Kwanza government.
The TSC would receive Sh316.7 billion, or 50% of the total Sh628.6 billion set aside for the education sector, according to budget documents for 2023–24.
With Sh4.8 billion, TSC would be able to engage 20,000 intern educators.
TSC received Sh2.5 billion the year before to put towards hiring teachers.
According to TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia, the commission requires Sh2.2 billion to advance teachers to higher pay tiers.
Despite this, the government has allocated Sh1.1 billion to raise the status of teachers.
She also indicated that Sh2.1 billion is required to fund commission-level teacher professional development.

In his arguments to the Committee on Education and Research of the National Assembly, Macharia stated that recruiting can help achieve the objectives of the bottom-up economic development strategy.
The shortage in our public schools is intended to be alleviated by these teachers, but more significantly, they are expected to guarantee that students receive a high-quality education, said Macharia.
She suggested that simply recruiting interns would have a chain reaction of unfavourable effects.
First off, it will provide jobs for the large number of young people who are currently unemployed.
She also prioritised improving education standards and elevating the level of living for many residents of the nation.
