TSC to punish school heads flouting fees guidelines as it investigates non-compliant teachers
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Macharia also directed school heads to stick to the stipulated school fees and avoid burdening parents with unnecessary levies.
CEO Nancy Macharia announces has warned that it will punish school heads flouting fees guidelines as the commission carries out an investigation.
“The TSC is investigating a few allegations that some teachers are not complying with Government directives on fees. Action will be taken on those found culpable,” CEO Nancy Macharia said.
Following multiple complaints and decrees from parents bearing the brunt of the deteriorating economy in the country occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic, the government reduced secondary school fees by 8,500 shillings less.
This means national schools will now pay 45,054 shillings while extra county and county schools will pay 35,035 shillings.
“I want to direct that all heads of schools take to STP rated school fees. Some teachers are not complying with government directives directive on fees. action will be taken on those fields if they are found culpable.” Said Macharia.
Primary and secondary schools reopened on Monday 26th for the first term of 2021 which will last only 30 weeks compared to the traditional school calendar that runs for about 39 weeks between July and March next year.
The calendar is an adjustment of the traditional January to December school cycle that was altered by the closure of learning institutions in March last year due to the covid-19 pandemic.
Term one will begin on July 26th and learners will have another one week break from October 2nd to October 10th before they open for the second term the following day. The term will run until December 23rd.
