TSC to hire 35,000 more teachers the Next Financial year, Ruto Confirms
Following the inception of the Kenya Kwanza government, it had promised teachers of employing 116,000 teachers during its campaign to bridge the gap in schools.
Going by their word, the Kenya Kwanza government has seen over 35,000 teachers get employed in the first phase.
Of the 35,000 teachers, 5,000 teachers were deployed in primary schools across the country while 30,000 teachers in junior secondary school.
The 30,000 teachers are expected to implement the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) in schools.
In March, the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) took the JSS teachers through the retooling process to equip them with skills of handling learners in JSS.
The training kicked of on Monday 13th and ended on Friday 17th after the uproar from Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) which objected TSC decision to train teachers until Sunday 19th.
The Teachers Service Commission has announce that it will advertise another batch of 35,000 teachers to absorb the qualified and registered teachers.
All the 35,000 teachers will be posted to junior Secondary School to bridge the gap that has been experienced in several schools across the country.
President William Ruto, has made it clear that after this year’s budget, they will be able to allot some money to the recruitment body that will see the recruitment and deployment of 35,000 teachers.
The president has affirmed on the same today 14, May 2023 during an interview with media houses that his government is keen in solving the crisis that has been experienced in schools especially junior secondary schools.

Therefore, unemployed teachers should be optimistic that starting July this year, they will be absorbed into the service courtesy of the Kenya Kwanza Government promises.
The president also noted that many schools are grappling with the lunch program of which he has indicated that it will be expanded and made more inclusive to boost enrollment and performance.
The president also implored the JSS teachers asking them to take up this JSS class with the seriousness it deserves terming them the pioneers hence they are the main characters in determining the success of this curriculum.
The ministry of Education has sent the first batch of the JSS capitation to schools to start off the activities of obtaining necessary materials for the JSS class.
The headteachers of schools across the country have been asked to spend the money well to avoid misappropriation that will jeopardize the Implementation of JSS.
School heads have also been asked to collaborate with the JSS teachers and the P1 Teachers in teaching the learners in the JSS as the government seeks to fill the gaps.
The ministry of education has also asked the schools heads to follow the protocols of the tendering process when obtaining the required materials to school.
“Any school head found violating the tendering process and regulations, will be judged and necessary course of action will be taken against them”, said Machogu.
