TSC Teachers To Brace For Hard Times As Salary Is Set To Delay this month

Teachers To wait Longer For April Salaries

The Kenyan Employees in the past two months are receiving their salaries late than it has always been. This has been orchestrated by what the Kenya Kwanza Government is terming as ‘Kenya is Broke’.

Last week the treasury indicated that the commission is yet to receive the Ksh8 billion meant for salary payments.

Considering the country has hit its debt ceiling and a number of loans are due this year, the country has stated that about 60 percent of the taxes collected are used in paying the due debts.

Ministries Owed By Government

The country as its now, owes six ministries about Ksh13.7 billion. These ministries include Health, Energy, Regional Development and Northern Corridor Development.

In the financial year ending in June 2023, the National Treasury has claimed to have made payments amounting to Ksh843 billion between July 2022 and April 2023 in repaying due debts.

The treasury is claiming that the expenditure in debt repayment for the months of January, February and March amounting to Ksh132 billion was the one meant for salary payment of all public servants.

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has further indicated that by the end of March, they had collected Ksh1.39 trillion. In order to pay its bill for the last nine months, they had to borrow both locally and in the foreign market about Ksh396 billion and Ksh235 billion respectively.

From the expenditure changing patterns, its indicated that the government Spent Ksh261 billion in 2023 February on development as compared with Ksh300 billion by February previous year, 2022.

From the data released by the National Treasury, it indicated that the Kenya Kwanza Government has spent KSH1.37 trillion on recurrent expenditure which is way higher by KSH100 billion the same time like now last year.

Its also indicated that the current administration has spent KSH183 billion on county transfers which is ksh.10 billion less than the previous year.

The treasury is now planning to send ksh 31 billion for the month of January that will cater for the delayed salaries in order to reduce the backlog and address salary delay issues.
