TSC Teachers Set to Undergo Mandatory Training; Check Dates
Each teacher will have to undergo a new training program next year. This training aims to assist teachers in staying updated with changes in the curriculum, contingent on President William Ruto accepting the advisory committee’s recommendations.
When the report is presented to the President in the House of Representatives on August 1, 2023, the task force emphasized the critical nature of ensuring that all instructors receive new training regarding the curriculum adjustments.
Among its recommendations, the report mentions that “the Department of Education will develop guidelines on how all teachers graduating before 2023 will complete a year-long mandatory retooling and upgrading program to align with the changes.”
Institutions will now be mandated to create extension programs for their teaching staff to prepare them for the retooling program before embarking on competency-based teacher training.
The Working Committee has also proposed that candidates pursuing initial teacher training should attain a grade of C (single), a move aimed at enhancing the quantity and quality of new teachers entering the profession.

Regarding programs leading to the Bachelor of Education degree, the University Senate will continue to establish the admission requirements.
Additionally, the Teacher Service Commission will afford all graduates the opportunity to participate in a mandatory one-year internship program upon the completion of their pre-service training.
