TSC Spells The Fate of Senior Interns As Recruitment Kicks Off Soon
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in Kenya plays a crucial role in overseeing the teaching profession, from registration to recruitment, promotions, transfers, and ensuring timely salary payments.
Recently, TSC has been working diligently to address teacher shortages and advocate for better compensation for educators.
One significant development is that since 2019, teachers starting their careers as interns are now recognized as permanent, pensionable employees. This provides job security and financial stability to these dedicated teachers.

In February of this year, TSC initiated a recruitment drive, bringing in around 20,000 trainee teachers, particularly focusing on primary and secondary education to support the transition to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Some trainee teachers are still under probation, but plans are underway to transition all of them to permanent positions with pension benefits, marking a significant change in Kenya’s teaching job market.
Before the 2024 school year begins, all trainee teachers currently working in primary and secondary schools are expected to receive formal confirmation letters of their transition to permanent, pensionable positions.
TSC’s proactive approach in safeguarding Kenya’s educational future and the welfare of its teaching workforce is evident through these initiatives. This marks a positive step toward addressing the challenges faced by educators in the country.
