TSC Settles Debate on Which School Heads Will Manage Junior Secondary in Primary Institutions.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has answered the question of who, between secondary principals and primary headteachers, will manage JSS.
Clive Gisairo, a lawmaker from Kitutu Masaba, sought reassurances from TSC on who would manage the Junior Secondary (JSS) once the students were enrolled in the primary system.
“Is the administrator going to be the one teacher who is posted in the schools? Will the schools have different management in the same school or how will that be done?” asked Gisairo.
According to the legal officer of the commission, Cavin Anyuor, the Grade 7 pupils will continue to be supervised by the school’s principal where the JS will be housed.
“As it stands now, the administrator will still remain the head teacher of the primary school hosting the Junior Secondary until the time when the JS will have fully taken off,” Anyuor said.
President William Ruto’s decision to remove the national examination that would have determined the passage of Grade 6 students to junior secondary school was a major victory for parents.
Ruto also mandated that students who took the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment continue their education in the same primary school for junior high.
“The Grade 6 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment will not be used for placement in Junior Secondary School,” the preliminary report brief issued by State House Spokesman Hussein Mohamed said.
“Instead, it will be used as an assessment to monitor learning progress and provide feedback to education sector players on areas that require intervention.”
After meeting with President Ruto at the State House on Thursday, the working group gave its directives in a preliminary report.
