TSC Says Only Teachers With TPD Are Eligible For Promotions.

The TSC TPD program is still on in all the accredited institutions despite low teacher enrollment for the program.

For example, in Mount Kenya Teachers are attending to their lessons online using the links provided by the Institution.

The teachers started their session today and they are expected to wind up on 6, May 2023.

Among those institutions that were picked and are accredited by TSC to offer professional training to teachers were;

1. Kenyatta University
2. Mount Kenya University
3. Riara University
4. Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI)

The commission has mentioned that more institutions will be picked to offered the Professional Development course to teacher this year.

Following the petition that was in court challenging the implementation of the program, the court later cleared the commission giving it a go ahead to implement the Programme.

Career Progression Guidelines

According to the commission’s Career Progression Guidelines (CPG), they state that only those teachers who have taken TPD programme will be eligible for promotions.

TSC first launched the programme with the introductory module in September 22, 2021.

There are teachers who have already been issued with the certificate after completing their five areas in TPD. These teachers have been attending to their lessons in the evening and during the nights.

There are five major areas that are being handled under the introductory module. They include;

1. Teacher Professionalism
2. CBC, Pedagogy and Inclusive Practices
3. Assessment
4. Comprehensive School Health and Safety
5. Instructional Leadership and Financial Literacy

Nonetheless, quite a number of teachers are yet to join the programme covering six modules even as TSC has stated that it will form the basis for teacher promotion.

Teachers have cited hard economic times that have deterred them from affording the required fees for the Programme.

Since Mount Kenya is an accredited institution, teachers are encouraged to join the institution for professional Development.
