TSC Releases 14,738 Teacher Promotion Letters

Senior Masters, Senior Teachers, Head Teachers, Deputy Head Teachers, and Principals have all had their positions filled.

More than 1,900 letters of promotion have been submitted to county school directors by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). A few of counties have already started sending posting letters to teachers who have been promoted.

There have been delays in getting the letters out since the interviews were over. Since the newly assigned instructors have already received their letters, they can report to their new location and start working next term.

TSC published an original advertising in December 2022 for 14,738 teacher promotions before removing it. After failing to draw in the necessary number of applicants, it then issued new invitations for applications in January, March, and May of this year.

Teachers who submitted applications to become senior teachers have not yet received letters from the Commission. While they wait for confirmation, some teachers have been working as senior teachers.

According to the TSC database, which is also available in the offices of county and sub county directors, the majority of teachers who participated in promotion interviews in March and were chosen for the jobs for which they applied have not yet been posted.

A top TSC official claims that Treasury is delivering money in stages and blames the delays on a lack of finance. As long as it has cash, the Commission, according to him, will keep elevating and placing professors.

Nancy Macharia, the TSC’s CEO, has criticised teachers for not receiving advancements and for their own inertia. She claimed that teachers were reluctant to submit applications for advancements in other states.

The difficulty of “promotion-based localization,” in which teacher promotions are now based on the number of openings in a certain county, was presented to the commission while conducting teacher promotions.

The head of the TSC remarked that in order to fill openings brought about by attrition naturally, the commission had posted 14,738 positions for teachers to be promoted to various grades. Only 11,231 instructors were employed, while there were 3,507 open positions that lacked applicants.

Affirmative action qualified educators might apply for 1,021 open positions. For both ordinary and special schools, the TSC published job advertisements for the posts of chief principal, principal, assistant principal, senior master, headteacher, and senior teacher.
