TSC Release These Regions As Most Preferred By Teachers

Every teacher wants to work in a serene setting with access to sufficient resources and a higher salary at the end of the month.

Nairobi and Kajiado Counties are in high demand and have received the highest teacher transfer requests.

According to recent information, Kajiado County is one of the most popular counties after receiving 237 requests to transfer teachers to secondary schools, compared to 94 requests to transfer instructors out of the county for secondary schools.

A total of 486 primary school teachers applied to work in the county, compared to 434 who requested to be placed elsewhere.

Other information shows that during the time period, 1,885 instructors sought to be transferred to Nairobi, the country’s capital, compared to 76 who requested to be transferred elsewhere.

By the end of January 2023, just 41 of the petitions for elementary schools out of 1,162 and four for secondary schools out of 723 had been granted.

Following a drive by the government to implement the delocalization policy, research and official statistics from the Teachers Service Commission, TSC show that Nairobi City County is the most chosen region by teachers requesting transfers.

According to information provided by the TSC to the Senate Committee on Education, a total of 36,277 instructors applied for transfers between November 1, 2022, and January 31, 2023, nationwide.

Only 14,733 of these transfer requests were matched and granted, and 21,544 are still pending.

In comparison to the 76 teachers who wanted to be transferred outside of Nairobi during that time, 1,885 teachers applied to be transferred to the capital city.

By the end of January, only 41 of the petitions for elementary schools out of 1,162 and four for senior schools out of 723 had been approved.

However, only one secondary school teacher left the city while a total of 45 primary school teachers did.

In addition, 1,074 other primary school teachers have applied to be transferred out of Bungoma County, which is where the most of them (1,336) have applied to be transferred.

The non-monetary Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) teachers unions agreed with the TSC contains a general statement of the TSC agreement to reverse the delocalization agenda.
