The Teachers Service Commission (Tsc) has sent a SHOW CAUSE LETTER to the teacher who walks a 20-kilometre trip daily to deliver KCSE exams to her 18 candidates in Trans Mara East, Narok County.
The teacher has been asked to record a statement over a story published by The Nation on her situation. The delocalized Principal Ms Magdalene Njoki Kimani is estimated to cover a distance of more than 320 kilometres by the end of the KCSE exams.
“This story moved the entire country and made everyone realize the inhumane policies at the Teachers service commission.” Says Amunga.
It is for this reason that the commission swung into action to save its profile by seeking to distort the story.
She got her ground team and Education officials to deny and do what TSC is best known for. PR games. Consequently, TSC officers and those from the ministry of Education summoned the principal to explain why she spoke to the media and allowed journalists to accompany her on one of her 20 km trip.
In a shocking revelation, Mrs. the Sosiana High School principal is said to have no authority to speak to journalists. “Can you imagine? With KESSHA now a govt tool silent. With KUPPET compromised, where and how do teachers channel their welfare complaints?” Asks Amunga.
Trans Mara East Sub-county Director Steve Gachie debated that the 20-kilometre trek was a false statement adding that the teacher only does nine kilometres a day. The story by DAILY NATION, he claims had put him in trouble with his bosses at the TSC headquarters who demanded that he confirm whether indeed the teacher walks 20 kilometres daily and if not get her fired.
“Teachers do not only suffer walking long distances in Kenya to teach. They suffer from selfish bad policies from their employer,” says Amunga.
