TSC Orders Regional and County Directors To Compile This Crucial Data.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has ordered the Regional and County Directors to compile staffing data of all schools within their region.

The data will then be submitted to the commission using the link dirstaffing@tsc.go.ke latest on May 8.

This information comes after the acting Director of Staffing, Lilian N. Mwangi sent a memo dated 25, April 2023 instructing the above officers to do so.

Attached were templates where the Directors are required to fill the data for Primary School, Primary Special, Teachers in special schools, Junior Secondary School and Secondary School.

They have been advised that before they submit the data to the TSC, they should first verify the data and ensure its complete.

Furthermore, the circular states that the data that will be collected must be in line with what is on TMIS and asked to observe the time frames given.

Details for Primary School Staffing

The Directors have been urged to send;

  • The number of teachers in the school accurately.  Head teachers have been cautioned of giving false and misleading information.
  • Teacher-to-student ratio. They have been urged to use the 1:50 to determine the number of classes
  • Staffing positions which must be prepared in excel sheets.

Details for Secondary School Staffing

  • Number of classes offered as per the enrollment available.
  • Staffing positions
  • Shortages and surplus for each subject must be placed in one cell.
  • Learning Area combination shortage which must be equivalent to the total number of shortages declared. These shortages must be given in terms of priority on top of the information from primary school staging data in Junior Secondary. Directors have been asked to take into account the newly recruited teachers and those deployed from primary Schools.

Details for Special Primary School Staffing

Lastly, the Directors have been directed to give data in this schools as per the end of term 3 2022. Details needed include;

  • The number of courses needs to be in accordance with the special needs staffing norm, which is: MH 1:10, MH (severe)-1:4, Autism -1:4, PH- 1:15, CP-1:4, Hi 1:12, VI 1:15, and Deafdlind- 1:1.
  • Those units with teachers but no learners have been asked to prepare the staffing roles in excel using the actual numbers.
