In September 2023, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) announced employment opportunities for educators interested in working for the Commission. These vacancies were primarily for primary and secondary school teachers.
TSC outlined specific qualifications for those seeking an internship as a teacher, including being a Kenyan citizen, registered with the Teachers Service Commission, holding a P1 Certificate for Primary Schools or a minimum of a Diploma in Education Certificate for Secondary Schools, possessing original academic and professional certificates, not having prior permanent employment with the Commission as a teacher, not having served as a teacher intern under TSC’s Internship Programme, being willing to be posted to any public educational institution in Kenya, and having Personal Accident Insurance to cover personal risks during the internship.
Successful applicants were required to submit various documents, such as a copy of their National Identity Card or Passport Certificate, Teacher Registration Certificate, NCPWD card (if applicable), Certificate of Good Conduct, two colored passport size photographs, NHIF card copy, and KRA PIN copy.
Intern instructors would serve for a term of twelve months without the possibility of extension, with monthly stipends of Kshs. 15,000 for those assigned to elementary schools and Kshs. 20,000 for those in secondary schools.

Additionally, TSC planned to extend the internship period for 4,005 teachers, with specific allocation of slots for each county as follows:

3) Bungoma county: 21 slots
4) Busia county: 21 slots
5) Elgeyo Marakwet: 21 slots
6) Embu county: 21 slots
7) Garissa county: 21 slots
8) Homabay county: 21 slots
9) Isiolo county: 21 slots
10) Kajiado county: 21 slots
11) Kakamega county: 21 slots
12) Kericho county: 21 slots
13) Kiambu county: 21 slots
14) Kilifi county: 21 slots
15) Kirinyaga county: 22 slots
16) Kisii county: 21 slots
17) Kisumu county: 21 slots
18) Kitui county: 22 slots
19) Kwale county: 21 slots
