TSC Newly Updated Salary Structure for Teachers
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) serves as the governmental body responsible for the recruitment, management, and compensation of teachers in Kenya. In 2021, the TSC entered into a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET). This CBA entails a gradual salary increase for teachers spanning four years.
The implementation of the new salary scales occurred in stages. The first phase became effective in July 2022, the second phase in January 2023, and the third phase is slated for July 2023.
These new salary structures have led to substantial raises for teachers, with the lowest-paid teacher now earning a basic monthly salary of Ksh. 22,793. At the highest level, a Chief Principal now receives a basic monthly salary of Ksh. 157,656.
Additionally, teachers receive various allowances, such as house, transport, and hardship allowances, which vary based on their grade and location.
