TSC is set to Kick Off OCS Training of Teachers
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is preparing to launch a one-week training program for teachers from every school who will assume roles in their respective schools’ Office of Career Services (OCS). These designated teachers will be responsible for administering career guidance within their school communities.
The TSC has reported positive responses from most TSC County Directors regarding a memo that instructs them to support school administrators in establishing an Office of Career Services (OCS) within schools. This initiative aims to empower teachers to oversee the Office of Career Services.
The selected teachers who will serve as OCS coordinators are expected to participate in training sessions organized by TSC within their respective counties. TSC has communicated this directive to all County Directors through a memo bearing the reference number TSC/DQAS/MEMOS/CD/40/VOLII/89, dated 16th August 2023, containing comprehensive information about the Office of Career Services.
In this memo, it is highlighted that the state Department for Labour and Skills Development holds the responsibility for supervising skills development across various sectors and establishing the institutional framework connecting industry skill development and training, as outlined in Executive Order No. 1 of 2021.

The memo underscores the Department’s commitment to fostering career guidance, citing reasons such as reducing skill mismatches, facilitating smoother transitions from school to the workforce, enhancing employability, promoting labor mobility, and reintegrating marginalized and vulnerable groups into education and labor market services.
As a response to these objectives, the Department has devised a National Policy Framework and established Offices of Career Services (OCS). It is noteworthy that OCS offices have already been implemented in numerous universities, youth polytechnics, technical vocational centers, primary, and secondary schools.
Institutions were expected to provide feedback on the selection of teachers to the County Directors’ office by the 10th of September 2023.
