TSC Is Now Controlled By Politicians; KUPPET Says

Politicians have Taken Over TSC Roles

The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) National Chairman and Emuhaya MP, Omboko Milemba, has alleged that politicians are exerting undue influence over the teacher recruitment process advertised by the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) to favor their associates.

Milemba, while addressing residents in Vihiga, pointed out that there is a lack of fairness in TSC’s teacher recruitment because politicians have managed to secure a significant number of the positions. He has pledged to raise this issue in the National Assembly with the aim of preventing politicians from interfering in TSC’s operations.

The MP expressed concerns about the influence of politicians on TSC’s operations through their acquisition of job positions advertised by the institution. He warned that if left unchecked, politicians taking TSC vacancies could result in an unjust teacher recruitment process in the country, potentially depriving deserving individuals of opportunities.

Milemba urged TSC to uphold professionalism by distributing all job openings fairly throughout the nation and conducting teacher recruitment impartially to ensure that all qualified teachers are given job opportunities. He also called for experienced teachers who completed their training years ago to be considered during the recruitment process.

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi echoed these sentiments and accused politicians associated with the Kenya Kwanza faction of occupying government positions to reward their supporters. Osotsi mentioned teacher recruitment by TSC, Kenya Defense Forces, and the employment of Kenya Revenue Authority personnel as examples of this issue.

He disclosed that he had raised this matter in the Senate and requested lists of individuals hired by TSC, KRA, and KDF to assess whether there was regional balance in the distribution of such positions. Osotsi also claimed to have asked for the lists of individuals hired by these institutions to ensure fairness in the recruitment process.
